Maja Dittmar
"Through targeted knowledge transfer, Maja’s secondment accelerates the application of advanced patient-derived organoid models and supports the evaluation of new treatment strategies for pediatric and young adult sarcoma patients."
As a medical doctor and PhD student at the BONKOLAB // The Pediatric Oncology Research Laboratory at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, Maja’s PhD research combines clinical and translational studies in pediatric sarcoma, with a specific focus on the preclinical validation of a novel maintenance treatment strategy and its translation toward clinical application, aiming to improve longterm disease control following frontline therapy.
This spring, through the Grasshopper Consortium programme, Maja joined the Drost and Clevers groups at the Prinses Máxima Centrum voor kinderoncologie in Utrecht to learn their advanced techniques in patient-derived organoid models.
During her secondment, Maja:
* Learned state-of-the-art sarcoma organoid methodologies, from patient tissue processing to organoid establishment and culturing.
* Gained hands-on insight into experimental workflows, including drug screening approaches using patient-derived organoids.
* Focused on transferring this expertise back to Copenhagen, enabling the application of sarcoma organoid platforms at her home institution.
Through targeted knowledge transfer from Utrecht to Copenhagen, Maja’s secondment accelerates the application of advanced patient-derived organoid models and supports the evaluation of new treatment strategies for pediatric and young adult sarcoma patients.
